Not So Rational!

Decartes’ Error relates a story of a person who lost his ability to feel his emotions (through brain surgery.) The finding: The man, while being totally rational, became incapable of making the simplest decisions. He wasted his day weighing decisions but unable to choose between them.

The message seems to be that there is no such thing as a purely rational decision: emotions always play a large role in our decision making. But this also seems to suggest that a chronic tendency toward indecisiveness means that a person is cut off (out of touch) from his/her emotional faculty (think the stereotype of Libra – the indecisive Air sign, out of touch with feelings.)

Moreover, if we find ourselves stuck between different choices, it may be better to pay attention to our gut feelings rather than keep analyzing the pros and cons. “How does this decision make me feel?” might be the most important question we can ask ourselves when we are about to make that commitment/purchase/whatever.

This, of course, makes me think of the importance of the Moon…

  1. Timothy Neilson says:

    Hi again,

I’ve a fifth house Moon and have been told by more than one astrologer that I would be happiest and more successful operating from the western side of my chart. I operate in financial services and in much more Saturnian role and perhaps the 8th house via managing other people’s money.

What I most aspired to was athletics and performance as a singer song/writer. I chickened out at some deep level I suppose and took the fall back position because I chose to not express my Moon to the fullest.

You can check out Myspace and have a listen. Use the music search function and type in “Acolt” under band name. Enjoy

Thanks for sharing the music Tim!

Wow, it’s cool that you compose!

Maybe I’ll give it a try when I get a Macbook in a few month…(I play jazz piano and guitar but never thought to record them.)

The key need to be creative that the 5th house Moon has, I saw you express it in Newark astrology conference with your interaction with others as humor and heartfelt comments!

My guess is it’s portable across professions.
