10 Signs of Hidden Anger

Let’s say there are 10 signs of repressed anger:

1) You are always calm, and seldom feel angry. But you don’t feel any joy, either.
2) You feel judgmental towards others.
3) You have been abused in the past, but you can’t seem to recall how it felt.
4) You keep attracting partners that seem to have “anger problems.”
5) You can feel sad, hurt, worried, etc, but not angry.
6) You have violent fantasies.
7) You mistake being out of touch with being calm.
8) You feel depressed.
9) In an argument, it’s important for you to prove you’re right.
10) You’re always tired.

If several of these apply to you, maybe you have hidden anger.

Astrologically there are several measurements we can watch for:

  • Mars in 12th house, near the Ascendant (within 10 degrees especially, according to Noel Tyl.)
  • Saturn and/or Pluto in hard aspect with Mars could easily turn into hidden anger, especially if other measurements also suggest emotional suppression (e.g. Moon in 8th/12th; Sun in hard aspect with Pluto, etc.)
  • Presence of Scorpio planets may suggest the necessity for some psychological digging.

As astrologers we don’t want to be too rigid about applying these measurements, but use them as tools to facilitate meaningful discussions.

The key idea in discussing hidden anger is that people will not be able to heal this until they are able to consciously feel the emotion. Successful integration of hidden anger leads to increased energy, more self assertion and better self esteem. It’s by no means a quick process, but more like a slow reclaiming of one’s lost emotions.

  1. I’d like to add that a disappearance or loss of libido can indicate hidden anger as well. Mine shuts down. I am a 26 degree 12th house Mars. A d yes I lived in a household that feared ny anger so I learned to fear and suppress my own. I have been trying out the grieving process to include blaming my abuser and revisiting the past in a way that empowers me. One visualization includes verbally expressing ny rage, tying her up and beating the crap out of my narc mother, torturing her for all that she did to ruin my life and make me feel unworthy. It is amazing how strength gaining that is. I have to get used to it because it was rather difficult at first – my inner girl so used to receiving end of misplaced anger. I highly recommend the book, The Tao of Fully Feeling

  2. Guess what? I’m back. Thank you for your nudge. It seems I am still dumb so I went back to basic and do some digging. Looking at this article made me realized since I was young, I have repressed anger and other emotions as well. When your upbringing isn’t safe to express your emotions, it’s natural to fall into these tendency. And the bad news is that I’m still repressed but conscious because I still live with my parents and pretty sheltered. I hope you don’t get rid your old articles. All your stuff you posted is very informative. Yeah, I happened to have Moon in 8th as well as sun in hard aspect with plenty of Pluto. Thanks for the article.

  3. Hi Hiroki,
I stumbled upon your site today and have been reading your articles for an hour or so. I went to see an astrologer in Perth yesterday (I’m in Western Australia) who filled me with doom and gloom about my impending Pluto/7th house transit. I’ve been doing a lot of reading today and the rebirth aspect of SELF through relationship is much more relevant to me I feel than the “you are going to get a divorce” stuff. After stumbling on this article about anger I realise, with some horror, that I have all these traits! I strongly believe that my lovely Pluto transit is bringing all this stuff out now in order for me to heal it – finally – after 3 marriages. Thank you so much for an inspirational, educational and REAL astrology site that empowers people rather than scaring them half to death.
    All the best

  8. You hit the nail on the head for me, I think I have all those signs, including a partner with anger problems. I do have joy though, and I can get angry though it dissipates quickly and I'm quick to forgive if I can. Super Sagittarius with Mars & Pluto conjunct in Scorpio… tenth house.

What are ways to heal this?
