Boy, did we have a good time. I think I’ll be posting about 20 different ideas from the notes I took… Again I’m overwhelmed with all the learning and the emotions experienced. Noel’s deep passion for helping people through the miracle of astrology was absolutely contagious. Here I’ll share one aspect of this weekend: the sharing of Noel’s live consultation tapes (he is probably the only astrologer that publishes such consultations verbatim.)
The breathtaking synthesis of everything that he teaches – natal & vocational analysis, transit/Solar Arc, and knowledge of real life patterns – was demonstrated in the 5 consultation tapes that he shared – all under 1 hour, most of them around 30-40 minutes – with no astrological jargon used, and completely effective in its accuracy, caring and authoritative guidance.
“These aren’t cherry-picked consultations – pretty standard, just like what you would encounter” Noel told us as he shared tapes of some good and some challenging consultations. It was inspiring because we recognized all the techniques that he was employing (we learn them in the course of studying with him), but we were “hearing the master musician play with the same instrument that we have”, so to speak. In other words, his examples showed us what we can do with what we know.
There were several concerns that stood out in these consultations – vocation and relationship being the main ones (representing the MC and ASC axes, respectively.) It seemed that the fulfillment in one’s vocation is such an important need for all of us, that this has to be given top priority in consultation.
First step is to identify the vocational strength (which takes practice to do well), and if the client is in a work situation that doesn’t utilize that strength (usually he/she is aware of this), find out what may be the problem, and share that with him in order to help him make a positive change.
In these consultations, Noel was extremely artful in communicating the core concerns of the horoscopes – disempowering patterns of belief systems carried over from the early childhood – usually within the first 5 minutes of speaking with the client. Then he checked significant times of the past (as noted through transits and solar arcs), and proceeded to discuss present and future course of action – all the while keeping the eye of the main priority – to help the person to take action that will bring him/her closer to the vocational potential identified earlier.
“Astrological consultation is not a performance by the astrologer,” Noel said. Without establishing a bond and a two-way discussion with the client, nothing will change; when no emotions are engaged through an active dialogue, the client remains within the defense mechanism, which preserves the status quo.
There was also a professional psychotherapist in the seminar, who brought the horoscopes of her clients for Noel to analyze (without prior knowledge – looking at each chart for the first time). The purpose of this was to show how fast we can do this with practice – he did each chart in under 35 seconds (no exaggeration here) and captured a core concern of each person that took several sessions for the psychotherapist to uncover. Now that’s mastery!
